Relix Album Premiere: Greg Loiacono ‘Giving it All Away’

On Friday, Blue Rose Music will release Greg Loiacono’s new album, Giving It All Away. The follow-up to Loiacono’s 2020 release Mystic Traces finds the Mother Hips’ co-founder collaborating with a stellar group of musicians that includes Widespread Panic’s Dave Schools on bass, drummer Michael Urbano (Sheryl Crow, John Hiatt) and organ player Danny Eisenberg (Counting Crows, Jonathan Richman). The sessions were recorded at Dave Schools’ Northern California studio, Spacecamp, and produced by Scott Hirsch (Hiss Golden Messenger, William Tyler).
Loiacono tells Relix, “If I’m going into the studio with a band, I’m going to want to track as much as possible live. But that means you have to have a great band for the music that you are playing and recording. The band that came together for Giving it All Away is comprised of some of the best players I’ve ever played with. That includes feel, technique, a grasp of how to elevate a song and studio experience. This combo of Dave Schools on bass, Michael Urbano on drums, Danny Eisenberg on Hammond organ, Scott Hirsch producing and adding occasional guitar and me playing guitar and singing was just perfect for the vision that Scott I started out with. I wanted the lyrics and sentiment on these songs to be sung in more of a plain (yet emotional) language that is easy to understand. It was hard to achieve a balance of not sounding too esoteric and not sounding cliché. We couldn’t be happier with how it all turned out.”
Loiacono will support the record with four full-band shows, starting on Friday at Sweetwater in Mill Valley, CA. The complete itinerary appears below the album stream.
