Back in March, Greg Loiacono released a new single, “San Felipe.” Now, The Mother Hips member has released another new track, “Close Your Eyes (We’ll Be There Soon),” as the second installment in his ongoing series of singles scheduled for 2019.
The singer and guitarist noted that the tune was inspired while watching his friend, Little Wing‘s Kyle Field, perform a set at Big Sur, California’s The Hipnic. “I was laying on the grass with my family and some friends, staring up at the trees and listening to Kyle’s voice lilt through the leaves. There was no other place to be,” Loiacono explained. To capture this feel, the song sports a breezy, easy-going feel, highlighted by the Brazilian-inspired acoustic guitar and occasional piano contributions from Mikael Jorgensen of Wilco.
Loiacono has also compared “Close Your Eyes (We’ll Be There Soon)” to a road trip, connecting the three-part composition to the various stages of travel. He adds, “The first touches on the excitement of making the journey to your favorite place. The second is being in that place and taking it all in. The third is that drive home which is filled with a tired, beautiful sadness—recalling the fun times you had and wishing they weren’t over while falling asleep off into a dream.”
