An American Troubadour: The Songs Of Steve Forbert Celebrates Beloved Songwriter With Performances By John Oates, Robert Earl Keen, Jim Lauderdale, Todd Snider, Jackie Greene & More

Nearly two-dozen artists from across the musical spectrum have come together to celebrate the catalog of “quintessential journeyman” (No Depression) Steve Forbert with An American Troubadour: The Songs Of Steve Forbert, out today on Blue Rose Music. Featuring performances by John Oates and Bekka Bramlett, Robert Earl Keen, Jim Lauderdale, Todd Snider, Jackie Greene, John Popper, Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers, and more, the 21-track collection spans the Mississippi native’s four-decade career and features both faithful homages and adventurous reimaginings of some of his most beloved songs. Live For Live Music, who premiered the full album stream, noted the creativity, "with each artists putting their own unique twist on some of Forbert's most well-loved tunes."

Hailed by The New York Times as “an introspective, homespun philosopher,” Steve Forbert relocated to New York City in the late 1970’s and released his debut album, Alive On Arrival, to enormous critical acclaim. Rolling Stone contributing editor David Wild recently reflected that "now or then, you would be hard-pressed to find a debut effort that was simultaneously as fresh and accomplished,” comparing it to “a great first novel by a young author who somehow managed to split the difference between Mark Twain and J.D. Salinger.” Forbert’s follow-up, Jackrabbit Slim, went gold on the strength of hit single “Romeo’s Tune,” which reached #11 on the Billboard charts and helped cement his status as a genuine craftsman in it for the long haul. In the decades since his breakthrough, Forbert has tirelessly toured the world, released a slew of studio and live albums, earned a GRAMMY nomination, and seen his songs recorded by the likes of Rosanne Cash, Keith Urban, and Marty Stuart. “Some say that Steve is too young to have a ‘tribute’ record and I think that’s true because Steve has a lot of music left in him,” says Blue Rose Music founder Joe Poletto. “In my mind, this project is not a tribute but rather its intention is to recognize the spirit of the troubadour in all of those artists who follow their life’s path like Steve with purpose and passion.” For more information and tour dates, please visit his official website here.
