JamBase: Cris Jacobs Band Guests With Greensky Bluegrass In Charlotte

On Saturday, Greensky Bluegrass continued a two-night swing through North Carolina with a stop at The Fillmore Charlotte. The jamgrass act was joined by the members of Cris Jacobs Band to help close out their evening at the 2,000-person capacity venue. The five-piece act got their evening going with “Burn Them” from 2014’s If Sorrows Swim. From there, the Kalamazoo-based band would lean in on material from their recently released LP All For Money. Over the course of the two-set show, the quintet would deliver takes on six of the album’s 12 tracks. Additionally, the band offered up their first version of “New Rize Hill” of 2019, along with a jam-filled stretch that saw them string together the traditional bluegrass tune “Broke Mountain Breakdown” and their second take on the Nathan Moore-penned “Trying To Catch Me a Jesus” since 2017 with a “Funk Jam” dropped in the middle. Cris Jacobs and drummer Dusty Ray Simmons emerged for the final two songs of the second set. The augmented act teamed up on the Greensky Bluegrass setlist staple “I’d Probably Kill You” and Spencer Davis Group’s “Gimme Some Lovin’.” All the members of the Cris Jacobs Band joined Greensky for their encore as the now nine-person ensemble dug in on “Bone Digger” to bring the evening to a close.
